Medical Weight Loss

Obesity is a serious health epidemic that affects one in three Americans. It is estimated that more than 93 million Americans are affected by obesity, with that number predicted to climb to 120 million in the next five years.

Treating obesity can often be difficult.  If you are affected by obesity, you know first-hand that addressing your weight is not an easy task to accomplish.  The scope of weight-loss options are numerous and often confusing and intimidating.

Dr. Borghini bases her practice on proven scientific evidence and not on anecdotes that may appear in the media and on the internet.

It is important to note that all methods for addressing obesity should be utilized as “tools”.  There is no single treatment.  Dr. Borghini believes in utilizing a combination of the appropriately selected tools and lifestyle modification.  This combination is essential in a successful obesity treatment and weight management plan.

Dr. Borghini emphasizes the following principals:

Behavior Modification:   Modifying behavior that contributed to developing obesity is key.

Physical Activity:  Studies show that maintaining an optimal level of fitness increases longevity.

Education on your body and Nutrition:  Information on foods and how they impact your weight and health.

Support Groups: The journey to weight-loss can often be a difficult one and a lonely one. Support groups are an excellent resource to share your story and learn from others.

Pharmacotherapy (Weight-Loss Medications):  currently there are several drugs that are approved by the FDA for weight-loss.  There is a role for medications in certain individuals.  However it is important to emphasize that nothing has been shown to replace a prudent, calorie-controlled diet along with behavior modification and an increase in physical activity.
